Digital Solutions for Social Problems instead of Facebook Scandals: EYA Social VR Hackathon

For the second time Salzburg becomes the place to be for hackers and innovators from April 5-7: more than 100 young people gather to create new digital solutions for social problems –  instead of hopping mad over Facebooks data scandal – at the European Youth Award’s Hackathon. They will be supported by coaches from all over Europe, Asia, and even Africa – on-site, as well as virtually.

Creation, design, and development are the core focus of the Social VR Hackathon. 11 different topics have already been prepared by the students of the University of Applied Sciences Salzburg, so participants can work on them and develop a special focus on virtual reality. Topics range from the effects of youth poverty on healthcare later on, to decision-making as a teenager, and to an improvement of communication in social clubs.

Participants can even form a working group spontaneously and work on their own, new topic. It’s important that they look for a new solution to a specific social problem using digital technologies.

Creative minds who want to apply themselves, are invited to join the hackathon and try out and even create something new together. Profound programming skills are not necessary to join the event and the EYA community.

The Social VR Hackathon takes place for the second time as a cooperation of the European Youth Award (#EYA18), the University of Applied Sciences Salzburg, Startup Salzburg and the newspaper „Salzburger Nachrichten“. Some tickets are still available.

On Saturday, April 7, the results of three days of creative work will be presented to a high ranking jury as part of a public event. We kindly ask for registration to that final event!
